How to set up a free shipping discount

These days, free shipping is often employed by webshops looking to gain an edge over the competition – a wise decision, since some surveys report that up to 40% of customers have abandoned a purchase because they felt the delivery costs were too high.

When combined with an added incentive to add more products to cart – e.g. by offering free shipping on orders above a certain threshold – the business case for free shipping is hard to ignore.

In this tutorial we will create a Free shipping for orders above 100 discount. To do so:

  1. Go to Commerce > Discounts
  2. Click New discount
    • Select Free Shipping as the discount type
  3. In the Discount-tab, configure the following settings:
    • Provide a Name, e.g. Free shipping, the name shown on the order when applied discount
    • Check the Active checkbox
    • If needed, add a Description
  4. Switch to the Conditions-tab, in this tab multiple configurations are possible, but we'll only touch on the essentials
    • In the Total price-section configure the following:
      • Set Condition as Greater than or equal to
      • Set Total price as 100, if no currency is selected the default currency for the shop is used
  5. Click Save and close

The result is a discount which subtracts any shipping fees incurred on all orders over 100 – please note that this is 100 of whichever currency the order is placed in, so on multi-currency solutions it will be wise to use the Order section to limit it to a specific country or use a specific currency.
