Vouchers are unique, single-use codes which are used during checkout to trigger a discount, and the Vouchers-node gives you access to our tool for generating and managing collections - voucher lists - of these codes. Each code in a list can only be redeemed once; once an order uses a code, that code cannot be applied to another order.
In the screenshot above you can see three voucher lists, each associated with a particular discount.
Creating a voucher list
To create a new voucher list:
- Click New voucher list
- Provide a name and check active if appropriate
- Save and close
Once saved, click the voucher list to open its overview screen - from here you manage its codes and its linked discount.
Adding or generating voucher codes
On a voucher list's overview screen you'll find its Voucher codes list, showing every code and whether it has been used. There are two ways to add codes to this list.
To add voucher codes manually:
- Click Generate codes
- Under Insert voucher codes manually, write or copy/paste a list of voucher codes into the text field
- Click OK
To generate voucher codes automatically:
- Click Generate codes
- Under Generate voucher codes, enter a number of codes to create
- Click OK
Generated codes are 8-character codes; manually entered codes can be up to 16 characters.
Linking a voucher list to a discount
To link a voucher list to a discount - the discount which should trigger when the user supplies the voucher code during checkout - you should:
- Go to the Vouchers node and click the voucher list you want to associate with a discount
- On its overview screen, click Add discount and select the relevant discount
A voucher list can only be linked to one discount at a time - linking a different discount replaces the previous one. Once linked, the overview screen shows Remove discount to unlink it, and Go to discount to jump straight to the discount's edit screen.
You can also do it the "other way" and select a voucher list when creating a discount - see more here. Both approaches point to the same link between the discount and the voucher list, so it makes no difference which one you use.
Note
If the linked discount has a currency set - which only applies to amount discounts - the order's currency must match it for the discount to trigger. This is the ordinary discount currency setting, not something specific to vouchers or voucher lists, and a voucher list itself has no currency of its own.
Distributing vouchers
Vouchers can be distributed in two main ways from a voucher list's overview screen:
- Send emails - emails the codes to a selected list of users or user groups
- Download vouchers in CSV - downloads the codes as a CSV file
In addition to these two, you can use the Voucher Renderer app in an email to e.g. send a voucher to newly registered users.
