Creating and managing language versions and translating product field values

Many customers prefer to read about products in their own language - to make that possible you can create language versions of a product. On language versions select values - e.g. Name and Description - are allowed to have different values than on the master product, but most properties - e.g. Stock and ProductNumber - are inherited.

You can control which fields can edited on language versions via the Visibility field settings on each field.

To manage language versions from a product list:

  1. Select one or more products
  2. Use the action menu and select Languages.

This opens the Manage language slide-over: ManageLanguages1 Using this slide-over you can create or remove language versions of a product.

To create language versions:

  1. Select the languages you want to create a version for
  2. If relevant check one of the operation options:
    • Set added language products to active
    • Copy content from default language to added language products
  3. Click Create

To remove language versions:

  1. Unselect the languages you want to remove versions for
  2. Check Delete language products for deselected languages
  3. Click Create

When you manage languages for multiple products at the same time, you can see how many of the selected products are localized next to the language in the Manage language slide-over.

Translating product field values

To translate fields on language versions:

  1. Open an edit screen for a product
  2. In the top bar click in the Translations button TranslationsButton
  3. Select the languages you want to work with and click Apply

The selected languages are then listed side-by-side and you can edit and save field values. TranslationsInterface As you can see, on language versions only the fields which are allowed to be edited can be changed, all fields which inherit their values from the master product are greyed out.
